Peter Jones (born June 12, 1920 in Wem , Shropshire , † April 10, 2000 in Westminster , London ), actually Peter Geoffrey F. Carey-Jones , was a British actor , screenwriter and radio play speaker .

Life

Jones attended Ellesmere College and first appeared as an actor in a Wolverhampton theater at the age of 16 . In 1942 he starred in the production of The Doctor's Dilemma in London's West End . In the same year he made his feature film debut without being named in the credits. His other feature film roles include the comedies The Totally Crazy Hospital and Savior of the Nation from the Carry-on… film series , as well as The Pink Panther Returns and The Hour of the Winner . His television roles included guest appearances in television series from Mit Schirm, Charme und Melone to Inspector Barnaby . He had a leading role in the series The Rag Trade from 1977 to 1978 as well as recurring roles in the series Mr. Digby Darling and The Man from Eaton Place . He also wrote the scripts for various television formats, including the sitcom Mr Big , in which he also played one of the leading roles.

Between 1952 and 1955 Jones spoke in the BBC radio comedy series In All Directions one of the leading roles alongside Peter Ustinov , with whom he also wrote the scripts. He narrated the book in the radio play series The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams . He later also spoke in the television series and the record adaptation.

Jones was married with two children.
