Richard Mummendey
Richard Mummendey (born July 14, 1900 in Angelsdorf, today part of Elsdorf (Rhineland) ; † September 24, 1978 in Bad Kissingen , Lower Franconia ) was a German librarian , book scholar, author, translator and editor .
Life
Mummendey was a German librarian and book scholar. Since 1962 he was the deputy director of the Bonn University Library .
He was also known as a translator from English and American. So he transferred z. B. Works by Robert Louis Stevenson ( " Treasure Island " , 1967), Herman Melville ( " Moby Dick " , 1964; " Benito Cereno " ) and Charles Dickens in German. He also translated the first edition of Jonathan Swift's " Gulliver's Travels in Ferne Land" ( Gutenberg Book Guild , 1952).
