Hanjo Kesting

Hanjo Kesting (born January 23, 1943 in Wuppertal ) is a German editor and publicist .

Live and act

From 1962 to 1969 he studied philosophy , literature and history in Cologne , Tübingen and Hamburg . Hanjo Kesting had been employed by the NDR since 1969 , where he was head of the main editorial department, Kulturelles Wort , from 1973 to 2006 .

As editor of the literary radio series Am Morgen vorgelesen and Am Abend vorgelesen , an extensive archive of acoustic literature was created under his responsibility, which among other things forms the basis of the audio books he has published for Deutsche Grammophon over many years . In 2007 the publishing house mOcean published an audio edition of world literature in 50 volumes.

As a member of various juries, Hanjo Kesting was involved in the awarding of various literary prizes (most recently in 2009 when the Lessing Prize of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg was awarded). In the years 1981–1984 he took on teaching positions at the universities of Hanover and Hildesheim. He is also a member of the board of trustees of the Academy for Spoken Word in Stuttgart.

Hanjo Kesting has been the cultural editor of the Neue Gesellschaft / Frankfurter Hefte magazine since 2006 . In 1982 he received the Critics' Prize of the Salzburg Festival and in 2005 the Kurt Morawietz Literature Prize of the City of Hanover. He received an honorary doctorate from the University of Hamburg in 2007. He is also chairman of the board of trustees of the Günter Grass Media Foundation in Bremen. Hanjo Kesting is a member of the PEN Center Germany .

Hanjo Kesting lives and works in Hamburg and has two daughters. His brother is the music critic Jürgen Kesting .
