Hermann Ewald Wenck (born December 28, 1891 in Berlin ; † April 30, 1981 there ) was a German actor , cabaret artist and radio host.

Life

He made his theatrical debut after taking private acting lessons in 1912 at the Bautzen City Theater in Shakespeare's What You Want . Further engagements followed in Konstanz, Gera and finally Berlin. In Berlin Wenck acted mainly at the Metropoltheater and the Admiralspalast .

Ewald Wenck started his career as a film actor in the silent film era and made his debut in 1919 as an actor in Hans Werckmeister's Margots Freier , followed by other film productions. His real breakthrough, however, only came with the advent of the talkie, when he became a popular actor in the 1930s and 1940s. However, he was often cast in smaller roles, but later became one of the busiest supporting actors in German film. During the Second World War he was able to take part in various entertainment films, including German film classics such as Helmut Weiss ' Die Feuerzangenbowle from 1944.

After the end of the war, Wenck became popular in Germany primarily through his participation in the RIAS radio cabaret Die Insulaner as well as in the RIAS radio play series Pension Spreewitz and as a narrator in Back then it was - stories from old Berlin . He then appeared in 282 RIAS broadcasts from January 27, 1970 as the world's oldest DJ in “Ewalds Schlagerparade” (author: Michael Alex ) until January 26, 1981, which he regularly called “Opi Dopi” and "Hello fans, here is Ewald's hit parade again - a modern hit show for mature listeners" moderated.

He was buried in the Steglitz cemetery.
