action

“Educator wanted - minimum age 45 years. Beauty not wanted! ”- that's the unflattering text of an advertisement on which the brothers Achim, Gerd and Rolf Terbrügge put all their hopes. Because the three bachelors have a nephew named Till who they have to look after. Not that the five-year-old has pissed off all previous teachers - the problem was more in the nature of the three brothers! As soon as one of the young women arrived, she was mostly very pretty and had instantly sparked rivalry among the naked men. This could not go well in the long run. But now a suitable candidate has been found: Her name is Luise Mehlhorn and now really does not fall under the common concept of beauty. The Terbrügges accept her immediately. But then a problem arises: Luise lies in bed with mumps and a lot of fever and cannot take up the position immediately. On the other hand, however, she does not want to completely do without what she finds interesting. And so she asks her younger friend Käthe Lohmann to step in for her at short notice, for a maximum of 14 days. Unfortunately, there is one catch: Käthe not only looks like a model, she's even one and earns a living as a mannequin. But she doesn't have the faintest idea about bringing up children and actually doesn't feel like bothering with blaring brats. For Luise's sake, Käthe renounces her planned vacation and instead travels to the Terbrügges at the Siebeneichen forest estate.

In order not to attract attention straight away, Käthe has trimmed herself to be inconspicuous and unsightly: She puts on glasses and pokes her hair up in a bun. During the train journey, the unmarried woman meets old Revendonk, a neighbor of the Terbrügges, and whispers a false vita (husband and five children of his own) to him. Arrived at the destination station, Rolf and little Till pick up the "elderly" governess Käthe. The little boy is immediately enthusiastic about the new teacher. Shortly after arriving at Siebeneichen, Käthe takes part in a lively snowball fight, whereupon the updo is immediately undone and the men realize that they will be dealing with a well-known problem again: The new teacher is simply too young and too pretty! Achim and Gerd immediately lapse into their practiced competition mode, as both of them really want to start an affair with Käthe. Rolf, the youngest of the three big “children”, is not perceived by the two older brothers as serious competition. It is he who falls seriously in love with Käthe, who also seems to share his feelings. Achim's not-so-steadfast friend, Dorothea, sees her skins of a planned marriage floating in the face of Käthe's presence on the estate and therefore notifies her old uncle Dr. Pettenkammer. Käthe is supposed to give Kathe a thorough examination in a strict interrogation. Before the confusions get out of hand, Rolf stands by Käthe's side, and both finally become a couple, for everyone to see.

Production notes and trivia

Filming began on February 21, 1944 and ended in mid-July of the same year. The film was shot in the Ufastadt Babelsberg (studio) and in southern Germany (exterior shots). The film was submitted to the censors on July 28, 1944 and postponed several times until April 1945 despite the implementation of various editing changes. Therefore, there was no longer a premiere in the Reich - according to producer Ritter, this was supposedly due to the “worthless material”, as he expressed himself after 1945. The premiere did not take place until October 29, 1950 in Hamburg.

Production group leader Karl Ritter also worked here as production manager. Anton Weber designed the film structures. Gustav Rathje was production manager.
