You are wonderful is a German revue film by Paul Martin from 1959. Caterina Valente and Rudolf Prack are cast in the leading roles, Dietmar Schönherr , Helen Vita , Rudolf Vogel and Silvio Francesco in leading roles.

action

Caterina, a simple seamstress, met the German seaman Willi Schultz in a French port city. But the romance is only for a short time, because the young man has to set sail again. However, he promises Caterina to return in three months at the latest and to lead her to the port of marriage. Caterina longs for the attractive young man. But he's not coming back. Caterina then makes her way to Hamburg to the address that Willi gave her. There she meets the captain Chris Behrens, from whom she hopes for help in her search. But Behrens thinks that he sees no way to intervene to help.

In order to stay afloat, especially since a crook stole all of the money she took with her, Caterina works as a singer in a band. There is still no trace of Willi. When Chris Behrens sees Caterina at one of her performances, he falls in love with her and is now ready to start looking for Willi Schultz together with the young woman, but without really wanting to find him. Rather, it's a good opportunity for him to be near Caterina.

When it turns out that a friend of Behrens has introduced himself to Caterina under the name Willi Schultz, Behrens sends the supposed rival, who has just returned from a trip, on a long journey again. Behren's previous friend Helen, however, ordered him back on behalf of the captain so that he could take part in the big sailors' ball. When "Willi" sees Caterina singing and dancing on stage, he is once again on fire and immediately gets a large bouquet of red roses. Meanwhile, Caterina is sitting at Behrens' table, who is just about to tell her his feelings. When she is presented with a large bouquet of roses, she thinks for a moment that it is from Behrens. But then "Willi" joins them and reminds them of the time spent together and the promise they made. However, Caterina means to him that she does not know him and that she has found the man she was looking for, her dream man, in the meantime, with her gaze searching for Behrens.

criticism

For the lexicon of international film , the film presented itself as: "An audience-friendly musical comedy."

Kino.de said: “Heartbreak and music, carried by the cheerful Caterina Valente” and went on: “When the farmer comes into town, he either falls over or stands on ... Caterina Valente sings and dances herself according to this thoroughly subtle truism as a young, naive French woman in the arms of Rudolf Prack, who after a few moments of doubt proves to be the most reliable man for life. "

On the ARD side it was stated: "In the musical revue film 'You are wonderful' in the style of the 1950s, Caterina Valente and her prominent colleagues show a feeling for rhythm and comedic talent."
