Nottingham won the game 1-0 against Hamburger SV and thus defended its title in the national championship cup. Between 1980 and 1983 Gunn earned a place in the team and was used regularly. After seventeen games in the Football League First Division 1984/85 , he spent the 1985/86 season on loan at three lower class clubs before moving to Peterborough United in August 1986 .
