A22 road ( English for road A22 ) is a trunk road in England . It begins in Purley Cross Junction south of London , where it branches off from the A23 road , and leads in a generally south-southeast direction over the M25 motorway ring road , which is crossed at junction 6 (Godstone interchange), and then follows one old Roman road for a short distance through West Sussex , before East Grinstead reaches West Sussex, crosses the High Weald , bypasses Uckfield on a route shared with the A26 road and then separates from the A26 which leads to Newhaven . Via Halland it continues towards Hailsham , which is bypassed in the west on a four-lane section that continues to its end at Eastbourne on the English Channel . She crosses the A27 road .
