The M27 Motorway is a 46 km long motorway in the south of England . The South Coast Motorway runs from Lyndhurst (west of Southampton ) to Portsmouth . The opening of individual sections took place between 1975 and 1983.

The M27 was originally supposed to continue to Chichester . Although at least between Portsmouth and Havant (junction with the A3 (M)), the A27 road has six to eight lanes and also has a hard shoulder, it remains an A-road, as does the other four-lane part to Chichester.
