The in December 1970 approved for traffic M61 motorway ( English for M61 ) is a 36 km long motorway in England . It connects the M60 motorway northwest of Manchester with Preston , where it joins the M6 motorway . The southern beginning of the freeway, the Worsley Braided Interchange at junctions 1 through 3, is known as the Spaghetti Junction . The Rivington Services rest area, which has been renamed several times, is located between junction 6 and 8 .
