Cynthia Payne (born December 24, 1932 in Bognor Regis , † November 15, 2015 ) was an English party organizer. She made headlines in the 1970s and 1980s when she was accused of running a UK illegal brothel in the London Borough of Lambeth , a south-west borough of London .

Life

Payne was sentenced to 18 months in prison in 1978 for running the largest indecent house in history . The sentence was later reduced to six months after an appeal.

Payne's parties were famous for their food stamps , among other things . These cost £ 25 and were given to guests who could exchange them for prostitute services . Drinks and food were also covered by the brands.

In 1986 the police raided her apartment again and interrupted a "party" at which Payne again acted as host. Although Payne was able to distance himself from the allegations, the subsequent trial in 1987 again caused headlines in the British media for several weeks. Payne took part in this development by repeatedly describing new details in bright colors in advance of the publication of her book Entertaining at Home in 1988 . The public appearances found one of their highlights in a television program on Dame Edna Everage , in which Sir John Mills and Rudolf Nureyev also participated as guests. On this show she announced an interest in a seat in the UK Parliament in order to work towards changes in sex criminal law. As announced, she ran for the Payne and Pleasure Party in the Kensington district by-election in July 1988 , followed by a campaign in her home region of Streatham in the 1992 British state elections. Payne won a seat in neither case.

Most recently, Cynthia Payne has been a regular professional guest speaker. Since 2006, it offered a new range of services and products aimed at adults.

Movies

Payne's life served as a template for two feature films. David Leland's Wish You Were Here portrays the years of her youth; Payne's adult life is portrayed in Terry Jones ' film Personal Service , which Leland also wrote the script for.
