Pease Pottage ( dt about. Pea soup) is a small village in the district of Mid Sussex in West Sussex , England . It is located south of the city of Crawley in the municipality Slaugham near the junction of the motorway 23 to A 23 .
history
Pease Pottage owes its existence primarily to the brisk movement of goods and people in the region. Archaeological finds indicate that as early as the Bronze Age a trade route led from Horsham towards the Ashdown Forests and touched areas of what is now Pease Pottage. However, Pease Pottage only experienced a significant upswing with the completion of a main traffic route between London and Brighton in 1770. The significantly increased traffic flow through the region led to a population increase in Pease Pottage and the revival of the local economy. However, due to the expansion of further traffic routes, including the rail link London - Brighton, the development of the place stagnated a short time later. Only with the opening of Motorway 3 in 1975 and the establishment of a tank and rest area did the place develop further.
Infrastructure
Pease Pottages infrastructure is characterized by the main traffic arteries M 23 , A 23 and A 264 . In addition, there is a radar station of the London air surveillance system around 800 meters west of the village at around 140 meters above sea level.
Media presence
Pease Pottage was the subject of the 1953 film Genevieve .
