Henfield is a village and civil parish in the Horsham District in West Sussex , England . It is about 18 kilometers northwest of the well-known seaside resort of Brighton . Municipal institutions
As one of the largest village communities in the Horsham district, Henfield has a historic and attractive center. It has a modern, busy town hall, a leisure center with sports facilities, St. Peter's Church from the 13th century, old pubs and many privately owned houses, some of them old.
In the southern parish is Woods Mill, a restored sawmill that is now the headquarters of the Sussex Wildlife Trust . The Sussex Wildlife Trust maintains a forest path in close proximity to the sawmill.
Sport and club life
Henfield is home to one of the oldest cricket clubs in the world, founded in 1771. In addition, the regional scout group , founded in 1907, is one of the oldest in the country.
Cat House
The Cat House is located near Pinchnose Green (English: nasal pince-nez green ), whose name was probably chosen on the basis of the strong odor nuisance caused by a tannery located here . According to legend, the Cat House once belonged to George Ward , who owned a canary . This bird was killed by a cat owned by Anglican clergyman Nathaniel Woodard . Badly hit by this loss, Ward painted his house with pictures of a cat that caught a bird so that the clergyman would be reminded of the incident on his way to church.
