tourism

With its location in the Adur Valley near the English Channel and its secretive atmosphere, Lancing was a popular holiday destination for the nobility in the 19th century. Nowadays, due to the growing importance of the surrounding seaside resorts (e.g. Brighton ) , Lancing has hardly any tourist significance. Nevertheless, visitors still come to Lancing today because of the fine pebble beach, the shallow water and the salt water lagoon Widewater . In addition, located in the north, the area Lancing Ring serving as Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (German: area of outstanding natural beauty) was classified, and the National Park South Downs .

Infrastructure

Lancing is primarily supplied via the A259 coastal road. To the east of the community is Shoreham Airport , the world's oldest continuously used airfield, which served as the Royal Air Force base during World War II . From 1849 until its closure in 1965, Lancing was connected to the West Coastway Line .

For a long time, lancing was characterized by agricultural use. There were numerous tree nurseries that produced fruit, vegetables and plants for nearby Brighton, but also for London . Many of the formerly agricultural areas were later used for urban development.

In the Sompting part of the community there is the Boundstone Community College , a public secondary school with around 1,100 students. In addition, a little secluded from the main town is the private boarding school Lancing College , the landmark of which is its chapel, which is the largest school chapel in the world. After all, there are various football and cricket clubs in Lancing.
