A million years before our time is a fantasy film by Don Chaffey from 1966. The film opened in German cinemas on November 24, 1966.
action
Stone Age man Tumak from the rock tribe is cast out after a quarrel with his father, the chief Akhoba. During his wanderings through the wasteland he encounters a giant lizard , a brontosaur and a giant spider . He collapses exhausted on a beach, is found there by Loana and her friends and taken to their much more progressive tribe. They are attacked by a giant tortoise , but the men of the tribe can repel it. Tumak is nursed by Loana and learns the much more peaceful, cooperative and artisanal culture of her tribe, which is very different from the selfish and violent way of life of the rock tribe. When their camp is attacked by an Allosaurus , Tumak kills it. After a dispute with a member of the tribe about a spear, however, Tumak sets out again; Loana accompanies him this time. The two drink from a watering hole, which is located in a cave, which is inhabited by primitive, aggressive ape-men and hide from them. They then escape a fight between a Triceratops and Ceratosaurus , with the Triceratops emerging as the winner. The two return to Tumak's tribe, where there are again arguments, since his jealous brother Sakana has now risen as head of the tribe. When Loana is bathing, she is seized by a pteranodon who wants to feed her to his offspring, but throws her into the sea when he is attacked by a Rhamphorhynchus . Tumak believes she is dead, while Loana returns to her tribe injured and dispatches volunteer warriors to help against Tumak's adversaries. When the warriors of Loana's tribe and Tumak's tribe fight each other, the nearby volcano of the rock tribe cave erupts and buries them under itself. Tumak, Loana and the other survivors now move towards Loana's tribe.
Reviews
"Completely unbelievable fantasy film based on primitive horror effects full of cheap tricks, often involuntarily funny."
“The Stone Age people love and fight each other so that the foam rock walls (by film designer Ray Harryhausen) wobble; the other special effects, however, are at such a high level that the somewhat naive dinosaur thriller becomes a pleasure to watch, to which Raquel Welch also contributes significantly. Rating: 2½ stars; above average. "
“Silly primeval world fantasy about two different human tribes and some dinosaurs that were already extinct at that time. Overall completely superfluous and unsuitable for children. "
