John Richardson (born January 19, 1934 in Worthing , Sussex , England , † January 5, 2021 ) was a British actor .

Life

Richardson began his career in 1958 with a minor supporting role in the British comedy Comedy Head Through the Wall, starring Hardy Krüger and Sylvia Syms . He had his first leading role in the Italian horror film The Hour when Dracula comes from Mario Bava . He then had larger roles in British productions such as Ruler of the Desert and the male lead in A Million Years Before Our Time alongside Raquel Welch . In 1969 director Peter R. Hunt pulled him as a new one after Sean Connery leftJames Bond whereas the role eventually went to George Lazenby . The following year he starred in the American production Once the day comes ... with Barbra Streisand and Yves Montand in the leading roles. However, he did not succeed in gaining a foothold in the US film business, so he subsequently appeared in Italian productions, including in the Gialli The Devil's Saw and Labyrinth of Terror . In the 1980s he had hardly any engagements, after a last supporting role in a television film in 1994, he turned his back on acting.

Richardson was married to Martine Beswick , devoted himself to photography after his retirement and lived in Paris. During the COVID-19 pandemic , Richardson died on January 5, 2021 at the age of 86 from complications from a SARS-CoV-2 infection.
