The Little Hocking River is a 30 km long river in the southeastern US state of Ohio . It drains into the Gulf of Mexico via the Ohio River and Mississippi River . The Hocking River is part of the river system of the Mississippi River and drains an area of 264 square kilometers. The river rises in Fairfield Township 7 km east of the town of Barlow in Washington County and flows in a generally southeast direction for its entire length through Washington County to its confluence with the Ohio River on the northern edge of the Little Hocking parish . In its upper reaches, the Little Hocking River is dammed by a dam that was built here in 1954 by the United States Army Corps of Engineers for flood protection. It forms Veto Lake , which is located in the 0.65 km² Veto Lake State Area .

The largest tributaries are the West Branch Little Hocking River , the East Branch Little Hocking River, and the Little West Branch Little Hocking River . According to the Geographic Names Information System , the river has also been called the Little Hockhocking River, Little Hockhockin River, and Little Hockhocking River throughout its history .
