Johannes Lassenius (born April 26, 1636 in Waldow , Pomerania (today part of Miastko ), † August 22, 1692 in Copenhagen ) was a German Lutheran theologian and author of the Baroque era .

Life

Lassenius attended several Pomeranian schools in order to enroll in the theological faculty of the University of Rostock in 1654 . Even here he came under the influence of the well-known writer of edification and hymn poet Heinrich Müller . In 1657 he hired himself as a court master and in this way got to know many European countries. He then settled in Nuremberg, the residence of the author Johann Michael Dilherr , whom he admired . His early writings are clearly influenced by his stay in Nuremberg. In 1666 he became rector in Itzehoe. In 1667 he obtained a theological licentiate at the University of Greifswald and thus a job as provost in Barmstedt / Holstein. His fame as a pulpit speaker spread quickly and in 1676 earned him the position of chief pastor of the German St. Petri Church in Copenhagen, which still exists today . In 1677 he received his doctorate in theology in Greifswald and later held - in addition to his pastorate - a theological chair at the University of Copenhagen .
