Pier Angeli
Pier Angeli , actually Anna Maria Pierangeli (born June 19, 1932 in Cagliari , Sardinia , Italy , † September 10, 1971 in Beverly Hills , California ), was an Italian actress .
Life
Angeli began her acting career under her maiden name in Italy and made her successful debut in 1949 in the film Domani è troppo tardi , which dealt with the then very sensitive question of when young people should be 'enlightened'. In 1951 she was awarded for her second film, the drama Tomorrow is another day , the Nastro d'Argento as Best Actress . As early as 1950, Hollywood director Fred Zinnemann gave her the title role of the Italian soldier's bride in the cautious time picture Teresa . After filming was over, she stayed in the US and changed her name. Her family followed her.
In 1953 Pier Angeli had a romance with Dean Martin , and a year later another with actor James Dean . In the same year, under pressure from her mother, she married an actor with Italian roots, Vic Damone , with whom she had a son, Perry Rocco Luigi Farinola (* 1955). Her second marriage to the Italian composer Armando Trovajoli had another child, Andrew "Popino" (* 1963).
Pier Angeli's acting career has included roles in such films as Sodom and Gomorrah (1962), The Final Battle (1965) or For $ 1000 a Day (1966) alongside Gene Kelly , Paul Newman , Fernandel , Stewart Granger , Kirk Douglas and others. In 1952 she received the Golden Globe Award for Best New Actress for the film Teresa .
In 1971, Pier Angeli died of a drug overdose in Beverly Hills a few weeks after completing the filming of the film Octaman . Her twin sister Maria Luisa also became an actress under the name Marisa Pavan .
