Sandy Howard (born August 1, 1927 in the Bronx , † May 16, 2008 in Los Angeles ) was an American film producer .

Life

Sandy Howard started his career on Broadway at a very young age before moving to Hollywood . In 1958 he developed a court show called Night Court USA , which he also directed himself . The following year he produced the police series Police Station . In 1964 he began producing feature films, but it wasn't until 1970 that A Man They Called a Horse was a great success. Richard Harris , who also played the title role in the two sequels that followed, also starred in Echoes of a Summer with the young Jodie Foster . Howard realized most of his productions in the 1970s until he had to deal with two failures in a row by the end of the decade. The island of Dr. Moreau from 1977 with Burt Lancaster and Michael York flopped, and the 1979 film Meteor , which featured Sean Connery and Henry Fonda , did not even make half the production costs.

This was followed in 1982 by the third part of the man they called horse , which however could not follow on from the success of the previous parts. As a result, Howard only produced smaller film projects until the late 1980s. Howard died in a hospital of complications from his Alzheimer's disease at the age of 80.
