Vittorio Sala (born July 1, 1918 in Palermo , † May 11, 1996 in Rome ) was an Italian documentary filmmaker and film director .

Life

After studying law , Sala made his debut at the age of 19 with the documentary film Palermo normanna , which he had numerous others follow - especially between 1949 and 1957. Active as a journalist in his native Sicily at the beginning of the 1940s , he later moved to the capital of Italy, visited the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia , worked as a writer and director for "Radio Bari" and as a film critic for " Il Popolo " during the war . In addition to his documentary activities, he worked as assistant director to Francesco De Robertis and Giuseppe Maria Scotese in the 1950s, when he devoted himself entirely to filmmaking . His first own feature film was shown in cinemas in 1955; In contrast to his acclaimed documentary oeuvre, Sala's fictional works were very average and received little recognition (with the exception of Giallos L'intrigo from 1969 with Rossano Brazzi ). From the 1970s onwards, Sala devoted himself almost exclusively to working for television.
