Life

Illo grew up in Essen as the daughter of the factory owner Friedrich Dissmann and his wife Else. At the age of 19 she went to Salzburg to study at the Mozarteum . She wanted to become an opera singer and also passed the entrance exam. Her goal of becoming a star at the Metropolitan Opera New York could not be realized by the Second World War . She returned to Essen disappointed, met her husband Ernst Schieder, whom she married in 1946, but left again in 1948. After a sports accident in 1950, she moved into an apartment in Munich . There she performed in pubs, where she performed a wide range of music.

Herbert Beckh became aware of her in 1954 and recorded two titles with her, which were soon broadcast on Bavarian Radio . A short time later she had her record deal. Her first record, Seven Lonely Days , became an instant hit. At the same time she stood in front of the film camera several times. She has worked in Ball im Savoy , Hurray, the company has a child or a visitor out of the blue .

In 1957 Schieder took part in the German preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest with the song What are the girls doing in Rio , but only achieved fourth and last place. In 1959 she had another success with Teenager Mamie and in 1962 with I am round and healthy , which was later "abused" as an advertising slogan for a corsetry factory. In 1963 she took part in the German Schlager Festival in Baden-Baden with seventy-seven women , but only reached tenth place.

At the end of the 1960s, she sang songs as well as chansons . In the early 1970s she moved to her house in Benidorm , where she opened a café , but returned to Germany a year later because she was looking after her mother who died in 1995. She moved to Velen (Münsterland) and ran a small café here for a few years, where she often organized song or cabaret evenings.
