action

Sperling's entertainment establishment is one of the most popular theaters in Vienna . Ferdinand Mikosch, Max Sperling, Otto Schummrich and the beautiful Susi Lindinger perform here with all sorts of sketches about the imperial regiment. This angered the Prussian Colonel Wilhelm von Drachwitz, who was sitting in the audience with his family. Sperling is desperate because Drachwitz's daughter Ottilie has been pursuing him with her love for a long time, but he is a staunch bachelor . Ferdinand, in turn, gets angry when Lieutenant Franz von Hohenstein appears behind the scenes in civilian clothes and flirts with his girlfriend Susi. The lieutenant is actually the house boy Wokurka, who likes to slip into his superior's uniform. Ferdinand hangs Wokurka in the stage set and Drachwitz finally intervenes, because that's not how you can deal with a lieutenant. In the end, everyone is punished: Mikosch, Sperling and Schummrich are drafted into the military and the real Lieutenant Franz von Hohenstein is transferred to Ischl in the company of Colonel Franz Joseph von Weißenburg-Schwarzeneck. The three actors are also assigned to this company and von Drachwitz also arrives with his family in Ischl. He is supposed to take part in a military exercise against the Austrians.

The three actors are retired, with the military enthusiast and suitable Mikosch being retired almost as unfit. Drachwitz recognizes him again and simply declares him suitable as a “punishment”. At the first roll call, Lieutenant Franz von Hohenstein is introduced to the company and Mikosch suggests that he knows a man of the same name from Vienna. On occasion Hohenstein asks him for a precise description of his person, as he wants to identify the fraudster to whom he owes the transfer. At the same time, however, he has to admit that the transfer also has an advantage: He falls in love with the niece of Colonel von Weißenburg-Schwarzeneck, Christine. Mikosch in turn recognizes the wrong lieutenant in Wokurka and now lets him work for himself. Thanks to astonishingly perfectly made beds and maximum accuracy - Wokurka shows the full number of points with every shot of Mikosch - Mikosch is soon promoted to private and corporal .

Sperling finds Ottilie again, who has been pimped up by Christine and now he really likes. Dimly falls in love with Colonel von Weißenburg-Schwarzeneck's cook, Fanny. Susi, on the other hand, also appears in Ischl because Wokurka wrote love letters as a lieutenant. When the real lieutenant clears everything up, Susi rediscovers her love for Mikosch. How to find the right couples.

The next day the maneuver begins. Colonel Franz Joseph von Weißenburg-Schwarzeneck fights with the White Army, including the actors, against Colonel von Drachwitz with the Blue Army. Mikosch succeeds in sneaking into the Blue camp disguised as a cow and overhears the battle plan. Then he goes back to the blues with Sperling and Schummrich, disguised as a nurse, and pours goulash soup mixed with castor oil . The subsequent attack by the blues on the whites ends after a short time due to severe digestive problems. The three actors conquer the flag of the blue and thus seal the victory of their group. Although they are supposed to be promoted at the subsequent ceremony, they are allowed to leave the army and return to the Vienna theater following an imperial act of grace, given that they are missing too much in Vienna's night and cultural life.
