The Pastor of St. Pauli is a German feature film from the St. Pauli film series from 1970 by Rolf Olsen with Curd Jürgens in the title role.

action

In the middle of the Second World War and in extreme distress, U-boat captain Konrad Johannsen had once sworn that if he got out of this situation safely, he would dedicate himself to the faith and become a pastor. Back in civil life, he remained true to his oath and after a while took up the post of pastor of St. Pauli, the notorious entertainment district of Hamburg. On his very first day, the newly appointed man of God had strange encounters. The Italian Luigi Moretti confesses to a murder and then disappears again. A little later he is also dead: shot. On the same day, Pastor Johannsen met pregnant Hilde, who, out of desperation, had thrown herself into the Elbe with suicidal intent because she no longer knew what to do. However, she is saved and finds a pastor who listens carefully in Johannsen. Hilde says that the influential father of her boyfriend Jörg is not ready to consent to the marriage of her lover, who is also the father of the unborn child.

After some time, Johannsen realizes that there is a connection between these two events on the first day of service and starts looking for the background. His research leads him to the brothel "The Golden Cage", where he soon comes across dangerous activities of a gangster syndicate. However, his opponents set a trap for Johannsen by luring him and their prostitutes into a compromising situation that makes it impossible for him to come to his superiors in the church council. In fact, the crook bosses have succeeded in this trap, and they manage to get rid of Johannsen - for the time being. The pastor of St. Pauli has to vacate his post temporarily and is transferred to the remote North Sea island of Norderkrug. But Konrad Johannsen is not that easy to be chased into the fenugreek. One day he returns to St. Pauli with a plan in his pocket to solve the murder and bring the people responsible to justice. Soon he can evade the entire syndicate and hand the criminals over to the police.
