Otto Wilhelm Hirsekorn does not have it easy: He and his wife had two children at an advanced age and also shares his house with his inflexible brother-in-law Luitbert Gimpl, who is even unable to roll up hoses in his garden hose business, Blume & Co. Nevertheless, Otto Wilhelm's wife Sieglinde persuades her husband to give her brother Luitbert another chance in the company that is run by Armin Blume. The philanderer flower is under the thumb of his wife, but has still managed to fill the vacant secretary position with the attractive blonde Corinna Schmoll. He secretly organizes a business trip to Venice , on which he takes Corinna with him. The Hirsekorn family is also going to Venice. For Susi, the trip is also a distraction: her father would like to couple her with the unknown medical lecturer Martin.

The family was forced to spend the night on a campsite. She doesn't know that her boat is currently still being used by the two drug smugglers Luigi and Paco, who hide the substance in a lifebuoy that they want to get off board the next day. The millet grains and Luitbert had already received the boat and made a trip out to sea. Luitbert discovers the drugs and gets high, which ultimately leads to his arrest. Susi and Margot learn in their hotel Dr. Martin Klamm and his friend Rolf know, where Susi and Margot pretend to be the other and Martin does not recognize that he is flirting with Susi, who he actually hated from his father's stories. In the end, Martin and Susi as well as Rolf and Margot become a couple.
Armin Blume is pursued by his wife to Venice and can only prevent a marital dispute by accident. He claims that Luitbert, who wanted to apply for a job at the hotel, and Corinna are a couple; Both now have to act as the newly engaged. All of this leads to confusion and confusion. When Hirsekorn's family dog finally eats the rest of the vacation pay, the family travels home early. Aunt Almut is in the process of redesigning the family's house according to her own ideas.
