Peter Schirmann (born July 31, 1935 in Berlin ) is a German composer , film composer , conductor and arranger .

Schirmann received his artistic training at the City Conservatory in West Berlin and at the Hanns Eisler Music Academy in Berlin in East Berlin. His subjects were cello and oboe, and he was also instructed in music theory, composition and music history. In addition, Schirmann continued his education with Hans Hauska and graduated in 1966 at the Berlin Film and Television Academy in the directing class of Egon Monk .

Peter Schirmann spent his early working years in East Berlin and the GDR, where he worked as a pianist, guitarist and arranger in dance bands and as a variety and cabaret accompanist. In Potsdam, Schirmann took over the musical direction of the cabaret Der Kaktus . He had co-founded the cabaret The Servants , from which the Reich Cabaret and Die Wühlmäuse later emerged in West Berlin . Since January 1959 in Berlin (West), Schirmann took over the musical direction of the cabaret Die Stachelschweine from the end of 1959 to 1965 . He then worked as a freelancer.

While he was still working for the cabaret scene, Peter Schirmann began working as a composer for cinema and television films. In the mid-1960s he composed for several short documentaries. For the new versions of the silent film classics Das Cabinet des Dr. Caligari , Der müde Tod and Nosferatu - A Symphony of Horror , Schirmann provided new settings as well as some new versions of sound film comedies with Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy . In the early 1970s, Schirmann supplied several film scores for poor movie theaters. In the late 1970s and 1980s, there were also compositional commissions from German television.

Since 1973, Peter Schirmann has primarily made a name for himself with German hits and has been arranging and conducting numerous recordings with artists such as Marianne Rosenberg , Peter Maffay , Udo Jürgens , Ricky Shayne , Michael Schanze , Fred Bertelmann , Christian Anders , Roland Kaiser , Howard Carpendale and Wencke Myhre involved. Schimann also worked with newer German bands such as Rosenstolz , the Berlin Comedian Harmonists and once even the doctors .

Schirmann has also composed for advertising and recorded classical music productions. As an arranger and conductor, he also worked with the big bands of RIAS -Berlin, the SFB and the NDR and the Südwestfunk -Orchester, the strings of the Deutsche Oper Berlin , the Radio Symphony Orchestra Berlin, Munich Philharmonic and the Film Orchestra Babelsberg together.
