Helmut Meewes (born November 15, 1929 in Hamburg , Germany ) is a German cameraman , director and screenwriter .

Live and act

Helmut Meewes has only been in the film and television business since the beginning of the 1960s. In 1962 he co-directed a short documentary about Berlin with a colleague, but then switched to behind the camera for several years. During this time, Meewes only created the opening credits for the Austrian agent film Shots in 3/4 Time and directed an episode of a multi-part film from Franz Seitzen's production , Der Paukenspieler . At the beginning of the 1970s, Meewes was also offered regular directing duties. His remarkable 14-minute documentary about a memorial on the site of the former Dachau concentration camp (1970) won the 1973 journalism award at the Krakow Film Festival. In 1971, Meewes worked on a television production with Peter Ustinov .

In 1975 the man from Hamburg directed Harald Philipps ' war film Die Brücke von Zupanja, which the critics called "extremely stupid", and immediately afterwards directed the prominent agent film comedy Also Mimosas Want To Blossom in Vienna , which, however, was also badly discussed by the critics. From 1976 to 1982 Helmut Meewes shot 24 episodes of the crime television series Direktion City and in 1989 twelve episodes of the ARD early evening series Drei under one blanket for the SFB . This is his last major record of activity as a television maker in the entertainment film sector, after which the trace of the then 60-year-old Meewes, who was active as a painter and author in later years, is largely lost. At the beginning of 2016, on the occasion of the re-screening of the Nandor Glid film, Meewes' presence in Dachau was announced.
