action

Old Louis Schubarth once emigrated from Germany to France 25 years ago. There he settled in Paris and subsequently established a successful import and export business with tropical fruits and vegetables. He loves collecting Asian art ... and his daughter Madeleine, who has meanwhile grown into an attractive, young woman. Mathias Wilbers lives on the other side of the Rhine, the same generation as Louis and a manufacturer of wind instruments by profession, which he makes in Hückeswagen, Westphalia. One day both men drive to an art auction in Munich, where a range of fine Asian items is for sale. During the auction there is a real bidding battle between the two men, in which one does not give the other anything. Wilbers and Schubarth do not recognize each other until late: they were once, long before the war, fellow students. This reunion is celebrated wet and happy. Louis finally meets Wilber's grown son Robert and takes a liking to the young man.

In the general mood of strong beer paired with the joy of seeing each other again, Louis had the idea of bringing his Madeleine, the law student, together with Mathias' Robert, who also took law courses. The two old people hatch a plan: Madeleine should travel to Munich and spend a few semesters abroad here. Robert, he agrees, will keep a watchful eye on the pretty blonde so that all of her attention is focused on the study and not on any other temptations. Madeleine actually arrives, despite her initially greatly reduced enthusiasm. Robert is delighted when he sees the charming, personable French woman. The girl from Paris makes her heart beat faster, and the German Studiosus decides to introduce Madeleine to “his” Munich. With music and dance, the two lovebirds get closer and begin to fall in love. When one day an admirer of Madeleine from Paris travels after her, the first clouds appear in the sky. After Madeleine's temporary “escape” as a result of a number of fits of jealousy and misunderstandings that temporarily cloud the happiness of Madeleine and Roberts, the Franco-German couple realizes that they belong together forever.

Reviews

Der Spiegel judged: “The jazz-loving law student from Munich (Erich Schellow) sends the sulking law student from Paris (the distinctive French Etchica [sic!] Choureau) a love song that is finally on its meteoric way around the world and so too the runaway reveals the author's honest intentions. Chunky comedy with a few happy outbursts into the Montmartre and Schwabing idylls .. "

The film service says: "The poor script of this post-war comedy with a rough description of everyday student life wanted to take advantage of the beginnings of Franco-German understanding."
