Walter Schmiedl
Walter Franz Schmiedl , also incorrectly listed as Walter Schmiedel (born March 5, 1922 in Vienna ; † December 30, 2001 there ) was an Austrian architect and film architect .
Life
Schmiedl received his professional training at the Academy of Applied Arts during the Second World War and gained early practical experience as a junior production designer at Julius von Borsody's side in Karl Hartl's Mozart film Wen die Götter liebe in 1942 . After the war, Schmiedl was available to the Austrian film industry for a good decade and, often in collaboration with (mostly film-experienced) colleagues such as Otto Niedermoser , Eduard Stolba , Sepp Rothauer and Theo Harisch , designed a series of entertainment films without too artistic aspirations. As early as 1958, after a final cooperation with master von Borsody, Schmiedl left the celluloid industry again. Schmiedl died at the end of 2001 and was laid to rest on January 16, 2002 in Vienna's central cemetery .
