action

The Hotel Seeblick am Wörthersee is doing so badly that the hotelier Stieglitz hires two advertising experts to bring new guests to the hotel. Both have a plan: In addition to excessive flyer advertising, Stieglitz is supposed to bring a star to his hotel who carries valuable pearls from the invented Maharajah of Saipur. This pearl necklace should be stowed in the safe of the house in a publicly effective way and later stolen. Stieglitz, on the other hand, is supposed to pay for the stolen jewelry out of his own pocket and make it clear that the lake view is a first-class hotel. Stieglitz agrees to the plan. As a star, he hires the night club dancer Margit, whom he introduces to the hotel as a French revue star under the name Madelaine Caron. The press is present and pounces on the case, especially since Margit has pearls with her that were organized by Stieglitz. The three-row pearl necklace that Margit has locked in the hotel safe is a well-made imitation. The original of this chain is owned by the German-American Mrs. Hauser, who also stays in the hotel with her daughter Glory. She also has her jewelry locked in the safe. Another hotel guest calls himself Graf Donnersbach, but is actually a crook who, on the instructions of his boss, is supposed to get the real pearls.

Glory falls in love with the hotel pianist Rudi Thomas and both go on a mountain tour, whose return from the tour is thwarted by a thunderstorm before nightfall. So they spend the night in a mountain hut, where they are entertained more involuntarily by a forester. The rest of the hotel guests are meanwhile taking part in a séance initiated by Count Donnersbach. Stieglitz, who accidentally missed the safe in the safe and gave Margit the real pearl necklace, steals it as planned during the séance. In the end, Margit theatrically discovers that her jewelry has disappeared from her neck, and Stieglitz fills out the check for her. He gets into trouble when Mrs. Hauser also misses her chain, which was taken from her during the Donnersbach séance. Since Stieglitz cannot write a real check, he “finds” the lost pearl necklace under the table - but Margit's necklace, he believes, is actually the right one due to the original mix-up. Donnersbach brings the fake pearls to his boss and is sent back to steal the real ones. He succeeds in doing that too, but on his return he is arrested by the police. The policemen give the real pearls to Stieglitz, who hands them to Mrs. Hauser with the remark that he has taken them into custody after the first theft.

The real Maharajah of Saipur reads in the newspaper about Margit and the replaced jewelry that he is said to have given her once. He and his entourage immediately set off from Paris to Lake Wörthersee and spontaneously become engaged to Margit in the hotel. Rudi, in turn, made a good impression on Mrs. Hauser, even if she does not know that he is Glory's friend, whom she even wants to marry. So she rejects the unknown musician, but recommends the charming Rudi to her daughter, and he and Glory become a couple.
