Uncle Aloys affair

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Uncle Aloys affair is one of the scandals in the run-up to the Spiegel affair about then Defense Minister Franz Josef Strauss . The nominal uncle of the Strauss wife Marianne , Aloys Brandenstein, is said to have received commissions in arms deals and thus to have become a millionaire. The affair reached its climax in 1962 with the article "Onkel Aloys" in the magazine Der Spiegel . In response to the reporting, Strauss sued the Spiegel boss, Rudolf Augstein, who was sentenced to pay compensation to Strauss for "extremely defamatory" allegations before the Federal Court of Justice .
