Start of the street

The Carnaby Street is located in London (England) in the north of the district of Soho . It is one of the most famous shopping streets in the city and is a pedestrian zone .

The street owes its fame above all to fashion designers like Mary Quant and John Stephen , who offered their creations there in the 1960s known as the Swinging Sixties . In 1969 Peggy March sang about the street with "What is happening in Carnaby Street" . The street is also mentioned in the fashion-critical Kinks song "Dedicated Follower of Fashion" from 1966. The Jam dedicated the critical song "Carnaby Street" to the street. In recent years, Carnaby Street has lost much of its former 1960s flair.

On the west side of Carnaby Street is the famous Shakespeares Head pub , founded in 1735 . In the north, the street extends to the Liberty’s department store .

Oxford Circus and Piccadilly Circus underground stations are close to the road .
