Günter Friedrich (born May 17, 1925 in Ritzow , Stolp District , Pomerania Province ; † December 4, 2014 in Elmshorn , Schleswig-Holstein ) was a German politician ( CDU ). From 1967 to 1983 and from 1985 to 1987 he was a member of the Landtag of Schleswig-Holstein .

Life and work

After elementary school , Günter Friedrich attended high school and graduated from high school. He then completed an apprenticeship in bricklaying from 1948 to 1950 , followed by a vocational education course at the University of Hamburg . In 1953 he took his first and in 1955 the second exam for teaching at vocational schools . From 1953 to 1971 he worked in the school service of the state of Schleswig-Holstein. Friedrich had been a reservist in the Bundeswehr since 1959 and was promoted to lieutenant colonel of the reserve until 1973 .

Friedrich dedicated volunteer among others from 1966 to 1983 as a church elder and provost - synodal the provost Rantzau, he was national board member of the Pomeranian country team and from 1990 to 1999 spokesman of the Pomeranian country team. In this capacity he strongly advocated an understanding with Poland. He was also chairman of the Ostseegesellschaft and was a member of the Stolper home district committees for many years until 2007, and in 2008 he was made honorary membership.

Friedrich was an Evangelical Lutheran denomination, married and the father of five children.

In 1959 he became a city ​​councilor in Elmshorn . From 1962 to 1974 and from 1978 to 1982 he was a city ​​councilor , and from 1966 to 1968 as well as 1981 and 1982 he was CDU parliamentary group chairman in the city council. From 1974 to 1978 and again from 1982 to 1986 he was Elmshorn's mayor . From 1962 to 1966 he was also a member of the Pinneberg district council .

In the state elections on April 23, 1967 , Friedrich was elected to the Schleswig-Holstein state parliament for the first time as a direct candidate for the CDU in constituency 18 (Elmshorn). In the elections in 1971 , 1975 and 1979 he was able to win the constituency again and maintain his mandate. He was a member of the state parliament from May 16, 1967 to April 12, 1983 without interruption. After leaving the state parliament in 1983, he was a consultant in the Ministry of Culture until 1984 . On January 14, 1985, he was again a member of the state parliament as a successor until he left parliament at the end of the legislative period on October 2, 1987. Friedrich was a member of numerous committees, committees of inquiry and bodies in the state parliament, among other things he was chairman of the submission committee from 1975 to 1983, member of the committees for youth and sport, youth issues or culture, youth and sport during his entire time as a member of the popular education committee from 1967 to 1979, and in the state electoral committee from 1971 to 1983.

On May 23, 1979, Friedrich took part in the 7th Federal Assembly, at which Karl Carstens was elected Federal President .
