The 8th state parliament election in Schleswig-Holstein took place on April 13, 1975 . Prime Minister Gerhard Stoltenberg stood for re-election for the first time and was challenged for the first time by Klaus Matthiesen , SPD parliamentary group leader and opposition leader since 1973.

Previous state election

In the state elections in 1971 , the CDU had won the absolute majority in the country for the first time, which it now wanted to defend in this election.

The SPD under Jochen Steffen could not take over the government. Steffen had withdrawn from politics after his second defeat and made room for Matthiesen.

The Südschleswigsche Voters' Association (SSW), which was exempt from the five percent hurdle , was represented by a member in the state parliament.
