State election in Schleswig-Holstein 1962
- SPD : 29
- Week of pregnancy : 1
- FDP : 5
- CDU : 34
The state elections in Schleswig-Holstein in 1962 took place on September 23, 1962 . The MPs were elected for the 5th electoral term of the Landtag of Schleswig-Holstein.
The All-German Party (GDP) left the state parliament . The ruling CDU / FDP coalition was able to expand its majority , but it was not immediately continued. The FDP considered forming a coalition with the SPD, which would have relied on the support of the only SSW MP. However, the SSW refused to support such a government for reasons of principle. After the FDP temporarily resigned from the state government on October 21, 1962 and the previous Prime Minister Kai-Uwe von Hassel had become Federal Defense Minister , Helmut Lemke (CDU) was elected Prime Minister on January 7, 1963 , who again formed a CDU / FDP cabinet .
On December 27, 1961, an extension of the electoral term by half a year was inserted into the state constitution , so that the electoral term lasted from October 29, 1962 to April 28, 1967.
