Location of the office of Schönberger Land in the north-west Mecklenburg district | ||
The office of Schönberger Land is located in the northwest of the district of Nordwestmecklenburg in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (Germany). It borders directly on the city of Lübeck and belongs to the Hamburg metropolitan region .
Two cities and six municipalities are united in the office to carry out their administrative business. The administrative headquarters are in the city of Schönberg . Originally nine parishes belonged to the office. The community of Neuleben was incorporated into Lüdersdorf on January 1, 1991 . Since January 1st, 2004 the formerly free city of Schönberg belongs to the office. In addition, the municipality of Selmsdorf and the city of Dassow came to the office of Schönberger Land on January 1, 2005 from the dissolved Ostseestrand office. The municipality Papenhusen left the office on January 1, 2014 and moved to the Grevesmühlen-Land office , where it merged with the municipalities of Börzow and Mallentin to form the Stepenitztal municipality on May 25, 2014 . On January 1, 2019, the Lockwisch community was incorporated into the city of Schönberg . On May 26, 2019, Niendorf and Groß Siemz merged to become Siemz-Niendorf .
The official area extends from the east bank of the rivers Wakenitz and Trave with the Dassower See on the state border with Schleswig-Holstein to the hilly areas east of the Maurine , which flows south of Dassow into the Stepenitz . The westernmost part of the Klützer Winkel with a steep section of the Baltic Sea coast also belongs to the office of Schönberger Land. Apart from the floodplains, the area is slightly hilly. The highest natural elevation in the official area is in the Bockholzberg between Selmsdorf and Schönberg at 84 m above sea level. Reached NHN. The area is dominated by agriculture, but the close proximity to Lübeck also created a number of new industrial areas that created many jobs in the service sector or industry. Nature, especially on the former inner-German border, has retained a high degree of diversity due to its long-term isolation. The areas around the Dassower See, parts of the river banks of the Wakenitz, Trave, Stepenitz and Maurine as well as the coastal section east of the Priwall are under nature protection .
The Baltic Sea motorway A 20 ( Lübeck - Rostock ), the federal highways 104 and 105 and the Lübeck – Bad Kleinen railway line run through the district . These traffic axes run mainly in an east-west direction.
