Groß Siemz is a district of the municipality of Siemz-Niendorf in the west of the district of Northwest Mecklenburg in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (Germany). The place belongs to the office Schönberger Land with seat in the city of Schönberg .

Groß Siemz is located about 15 kilometers east of Lübeck on the Maurine River and immediately south of the small town of Schönberg . The hilly area east and west of the Maurinetal reaches heights of up to 66 m above sea level. NHN .

The districts of Klein Siemz, Lindow and Torisdorf (formerly Torriesdorf ) belong to Groß Siemz .

history

In the course of the route investigation for the construction of the A 20, the Bronze Age burial ground of Groß Siemz was excavated.

The village, first mentioned in 1413 as Zimitz , is of Slavic origin and was laid out as an anger village. The Torisdorf district (first mentioned in 1526) was built around an estate that no longer exists today. The manor house, which originally dates from the middle of the 17th century, was demolished after 1960.

On July 1, 1950, the previously independent communities of Lindow and Torisdorf were incorporated. On May 26, 2019, Groß Siemz was merged with the neighboring municipality of Niendorf to the west to form the new municipality of Siemz-Niendorf. The last mayor was Rainer Berger.

In addition to agriculture, which characterizes the area, there is a carpentry, a drywall construction and two transport companies in Groß Siemz.

Transport links

The A 20 (Lübeck – Wismar – Rostock) runs between Groß- and Klein Siemz, the next junction ( Schönberg ) is five kilometers east of the community.

The nearest train station is in the town of Schönberg, four kilometers away ( Lübeck - Grevesmühlen - Bad Kleinen route ).
