Johann Joachim Hartwig Meyer (born April 12, 1807 in Hof-Menzendorf ; † November 24, 1884 in Wismar ) was a German Evangelical Lutheran clergyman who was important for the development of the seaside resort of Boltenhagen .

Life

Meyer was the son of the landlord from Hof Menzendorf. From 1814 to 1823 he retired with Pastor Hane in Gadebusch and went to school here. From 1823 to Michaelis 1825 he completed his schooling at the Katharineum in Lübeck . From October 1825 he studied Protestant theology at the University of Rostock .

After completing his studies, he first worked as a private tutor on a Mecklenburg estate and then a private tutor in Wismar. In October 1831 he was hired as a high school teacher at the large city school in Wismar .

In the autumn of 1841 he was appointed deacon (2nd pastor) at St. Marien and was introduced to his office on December 12th. In December 1849 he became (main) pastor at St. Georgen and connected with it at the Holy Spirit Church .

At Easter 1884 he was retired and received the character of church council as an award .

Meyer developed a diverse public activity. In Wismar he was involved in the establishment of the Wismar Sunday School , which was not a Sunday school in the religious sense, but the forerunner of the trade school . He ran a savings institution for craftsmen and participated in the development of the hostel to the home , the apprentice club house, the hostel club and the seaman's school. When the girls' middle school got into trouble, his efforts saved them from being dissolved. He also campaigned for the preservation of monuments ; a collection initiated by him enabled the preservation and restoration of the archdeaconate house behind St. Marien. In 1870 he suggested the creation of the St. George Church Choir.

His commitment to Boltenhagen is of particular importance. In 1830 he went on holiday to Boltenhagen for the first time, which at that time was still a farming village. In 1843 he published a brochure in which he described the beautiful location of Boltenhagen and promoted recreation and holidays by the sea. He collected the funds for the establishment of the Evangelical Church at Paulshöhe in 1872/73 and provided emergency aid after the devastating flood of the Baltic Sea in 1872 . On his 50th summer vacation in Boltenhagen in 1880, the residents of Boltenhagen erected a memorial stone for him, which can still be seen on the church today and bears the inscription: To the venerable pastor JJH Meyer from Wismar, the loyal friend, the constant supporter of Boltenhagen on his 50 year old Dedicated to return in July 1880 .

His son Johannes Valentin Gottlieb Ludwig Meyer (* 1839) became a pastor in Conow .
