The cartel Association of Catholic not color-bearing academic associations of Austria (ÖKV) is an umbrella organization of Catholic , non- beating and non- color-bearing fraternities in Austria . ÖKV, founded in 1933, is a member of the European Cartel Association of Christian Student Associations .

history

Foundation phase

The Cartel Association of Catholic German Student Associations (KV) goes back to the Academic Reading Association in Berlin , which was founded in 1853 . Before 1918, the KV hardly found its way into Austria because of the small German principle prevailing in the association . Only after this basic attitude had fallen did anything move. As the oldest existing KV association in Austria, AKV Tirolia , founded in 1893, was declared a friendly association of KV in 1913 and, after long hesitation between KV and the Cartell Association of Catholic German Student Associations (CV), was confirmed as a member of KV in 1923. Founded in Innsbruck in 1895, K.St.V. Rhenania is also a full member of the KV and the ÖKV.

In Graz the connection founded in 1907 as the Round Table Rodentein and since 1925 called the Academic Association Winfridia became the first Austrian member of the KV in 1922. The KStV Deutschmeister was founded in Vienna on July 19, 1921 as the first KV connection .

Politically, the Austrian KVer stood united in the camp of the Christian Social Party . There was close spiritual cooperation with the CV, the Leo Society and the Vinzenzverein .

Spin-off

With the DC circuit , the association leadership after the seizure of power of Hitler in the German Reich , the Austrian KV-corporations from the KV came and founded on June 22, 1933 independent ÖKV who stood out through the conscious cultivation of patriotic tradition.

The founding corporations are:

The connections Rhenania , Greifenstein and Deutschmeister Wien remained in the KV.

Nazi period 1938-1945

The resolute opposition to National Socialism led to the dissolution of the KV corporations in 1938, whereby the new rulers explicitly stated that the Austrian KVers had conspired beyond the borders of Austria against the Third Reich.

reactivation

After the end of the Second World War , the ÖKV was quickly reactivated and re-established. In 1951 an association agreement was signed with the KV.

Younger story

In 1981 the ÖKV joined the EKV, the following year the association agreements with ÖCV, MKV and KÖL were officially ratified.

In contrast to the association agreements with MKV and KÖL, the association agreement between ÖKV and ÖCV excludes simultaneous membership of regular members. The background here is the direct competition in the acquisition of new members, as well as the different orientation and understanding of the associations of the principles "Scientia" and "Patria" .

The traditionally good relationships with the German parent association KV are underlined by joint annual major events such as the Mondseetreffen and the Heidelberger Schlosskommers. KV and ÖKV publish a joint yearbook. The Mondseetreffen has been continued since 2013 in the autumn meeting, which takes place annually at different locations.

Principles

Its members are committed to the following four principles:

  • Religion (religio): Confession, proclamation through active deed, representation of Catholic principles in all areas of life.
  • Science (scientia): Intellectual education that goes beyond specialist knowledge, responsible social commitment.
  • Friendship (amicitia): fraternity in the community, oriented to life.
  • Heimatliebe (patria): Recognition of the free democratic basic order, respect for the home of the other and affirmation of the European idea.

Like the KV, the ÖKV does not only accept Catholic students, but also Christians of other denominations, provided they share the Christian view of life and respect the Catholic creed.

Members

There are currently 8 active student associations in Austria that belong to the ÖKV and one friendly association:
