The Neuklostersee is the most north-westerly part of the Sternberger Seenlandschaft larger inland lake in the district of Northwest Mecklenburg , Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . The lake is located about 25 kilometers southeast of Wismar . The eponymous town of Neukloster is located north of the lake . It has an approximate length of around 2.7 kilometers, a width of 1.8 kilometers and an average depth of 4.5 meters. From Neukloster a broad, forested peninsula tapering to the south protrudes into the lake and gives the lake a U-shaped appearance. Like all Mecklenburg lakes, the lake was formed in the last ice age . The east and south shores of the lake are largely forested. The lake has an almost continuous belt of reeds. A few places are only accessible in the Neukloster area and the Zurower district of Nakenstorf. The lake is used for both fishing and tourism. It has a connection to the Warnow and thus to the Baltic Sea via the Teppnitzbach .
