The Große Wariner See (also: Groß-Wariner See) is an inland lake belonging to the Sternberg lake landscape in the district of Northwest Mecklenburg , Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . It has an approximate length of around 2.8 kilometers, a width of 1.3 km and an average depth of 4.7 meters. Like all Mecklenburg lakes, the lake was formed in the last ice age and is a typical channel lake. The west bank of the lake is largely forested, while the east bank is mainly used for agriculture. The lake is almost completely surrounded by a belt of reeds . The eponymous city of Warin is located south of the lake . It has a connection to the Warnow and the Baltic Sea via the Brüeler Bach .

The lake is used for both fishing and tourism. The area is 2.6 square kilometers . The following fish species have already been identified: eels , perch-like , bream , pike , carp , roach , tench , pikeperch .
Every year there is a long distance swim of the DLRG Warin over 1.6 km on the Great Wariner See . Its water quality is excellent.
There are ten more lakes at a distance of between two and six kilometers.
