Pipe expander

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The pipe expander is a tool that is used when soldering pipes. It is also known as "socket pliers" because it is mainly used to press the sockets required for soldering out of the pipe. To do this, the expansion head of the expander is pushed into the heated pipe end. For every pipe dimension, the expander is equipped with a dedicated expansion head, which can be inserted into the pipe when it is contracted. By turning the handle or by pressing two handles together (hence the name socket pliers), the expanding head is expanded by a mandrel and the pipe is expanded. The resulting sleeve can then be used for soldering.
