history

The Glaisiner heraldist Manfred Sturzenbecher designed the coat of arms in 1997.

On December 3, 1996, the municipal council passed a decision in principle to use a coat of arms. On January 30, 1997, the municipality decided on a first draft of the coat of arms, which was, however, changed slightly again with resolutions of March 10, 1997 and July 3, 1997.

The Ministry of the Interior of the State of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania approved the use of the coat of arms by resolution of August 21, 1997. The coat of arms was registered under the number 135 in the coat of arms of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

On November 6, 1997, the mayor of Gammelin, Gundula Spaete, presented the coat of arms to the mayor of Gammelin, Bernhard Ritzmann, during a public ceremony.

Foundation of the coat of arms

The coat of arms shows the hops as a speaking symbol for the place name. The representation of 2 hop cones is based on the two former districts of Gammelin and Bakendorf.

The silver cross on a red background symbolizes the former affiliation to the diocese and the county of Ratzeburg . The shape of the cross is modeled on the brick cross niche in the west gable of the Gothic village church on a hill .

The shield colors red and gold indicate that Gammelin later belonged to the county of Schwerin .
