About this picture

The municipality Hammer ad Uecker belongs to the Torgelow-Ferdinandshof office and is located in the Vorpommern-Greifswald district in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . Until March 24, 1994 the community was called Hammer a. Uecker .

geography

The community with the associated district Liepe is located on the west bank of the Uecker river in the middle of the Ueckermünder Heide . The area around Hammer is flat and wooded. To the east of the road from Hammer to Liepe is part of a military training area (Stallberg - Drögeheide - Spechtberg - Karpin). The community also includes the expansion of the forestry department.

Hammer ad Uecker is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Torgelow in the north, Viereck in the southeast and Jatznick in the southwest.

history

The name Hammer suggests that the lawn iron ore deposits in the area were processed as early as the Middle Ages. When an ironworks was built in nearby Torgelow in 1756 , the village of Hammer was under the administration of the ironworks there.

On July 1, 1950, the previously independent municipality of Liepe was incorporated.

The meadow and wooded area in the middle of the Ueckermünder Heide offers affordable residential areas for which the community has created good conditions. The road and path network has been redeveloped in recent years.
