history
Völschow was first mentioned in a document in 1249 and is probably of Slavic origin. The name is derived from the Slavic word for alder (cf. Sorbian wólša ). In 1269 Duke Barnim II gave the place to the Benedictine monastery Verchen . During the First War of the Rügen Succession , the decisive battle between the army of Henry II of Mecklenburg and a joint troop contingent of the Counts of Gützkow and the towns of Demmin and Altentreptow took place near Völschow in April 1328 . In 1334 the Verchen monastery exchanged the Völschow for Trittelwitz, at times the place belonged to various noble landlords. After the introduction of the Reformation in 1534, Völschow came to the office of Klempenow as a ducal Dominialdorf. Völschow was destroyed during the Thirty Years War . In 1820 the now Prussian place was assigned to the Demminer Kreis by the Anklamer Kreis .
