geography

The municipality of Boock is located north of Löcknitz between the Randowbruch and the border with the Republic of Poland , 20 kilometers west of Stettin (Szczecin).

Boock is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Rothenklempenow in the west and north, Blankensee in the northeast, Plöwen in the southeast and Löcknitz in the south.

history

The place was first mentioned in a document on October 23, 1299. Boock was a handicraft village, agriculture was mostly only a sideline. The stone church behind the school was built around 1500.

Population development

The population of Boock increased from 629 in 1993 to 706 in 1999, but since then it has been falling, following the general trend in Western Pomerania.

Coat of arms, flag, official seal

The municipality has no officially approved national emblem, neither a coat of arms nor a flag . The official seal is the small state seal with the coat of arms of the region of Western Pomerania . It shows an upright griffin with a raised tail and the inscription "GEMEINDE BOOCK * LANDKREIS VORPOMMERN-GREIFSWALD".

Remains of the Dutch mill
  • The late Gothic stone church in Boock is 500 years old and was enlarged in 1790. The pulpit altar dates from the 2nd half of the 18th century.
  • The main street of the village, which is lined with linden trees and well-tended front gardens, is characteristic.
  • Specially protected orchids can be seen on the meadow of the dried out Achtersee . According to legend, a gold barrel is said to appear here every 100 years.
  • In 1999 the home parlor " Üns Heimatstuf " was set up on an old school site. Various handicrafts from bygone times are exhibited in two buildings and in an open space.
  • A renovated Dutch mill from the 17th century is located near Boock, two kilometers in the direction of Blankensee.

Transport links

Six kilometers south of Boock, the federal highway 104 runs from Lübeck via Schwerin , Neubrandenburg , Pasewalk and through Löcknitz on to the Linken border crossing into Szczecin in Poland, about 25 kilometers away . At Pasewalk there is a connection to the federal motorway 20 via the Pasewalk-Nord and Pasewalk-Süd junctions . In nearby Löcknitz there is a connection to the Bützow – Szczecin railway line , on which Deutsche Bahn DB class 628 diesel multiple units run in both directions every 2 hours from Lübeck to Stettin .
