Grünz is a district of the town of Penkun in the Vorpommern-Greifswald district in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania .

geography

The village of Grünz is located in the southwestern tip of Western Pomerania, bordering the Brandenburg municipal areas of Randowtal and Casekow in the west and south . Grünz is located on a ground moraine that extends north-south between Oder and Randow over a length of around 20 kilometers. The largely forestless plateau is characterized by large arable land and many wind turbines . Another characteristic feature are numerous pools - lakes without drainage that arose from ice-age dead ice holes. A whole chain of lakes starts at the southern end of Grünz with the dorfsee and Bibelsee one kilometer south of Grünz and continues through the Great Lake , the Uhtlatsee , the fishing lake , the moss puddle up on the Bürgersee designated Penkuner lakes also continued. Some lakes are subject to the silting process, which is well advanced in the case of the nearby Crooked Lake . South of Grünz, on the border with Brandenburg, is in the 20 hectare forest area of the Black Mountains at 74 m above sea level. NHN reached the highest point of the Grünz district . The western border of the district forms the glacial valley of the Randow. The terrain drops to the Randow by up to 4 meters in a steep step. This valley slope with dry and semi-arid grassland, which is unique for Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, as well as border, perennial and spring meadows is the central part of the 30 hectare nature reserve Grünzer Berge . The Randow at the Grünz level is a specialty: this is where the apex of the valley is located. The water flows both in a northerly direction (over the Uecker ) and in a south direction (over the catfish ) ( pseudobifurcation ).

history

Grünz first appeared in 1289 as Grönitz in a document together with the village of Radewitz called raw dung . The Grünz Church was built from 1229. From 1640 to 1720 Grünz and Radewitz also belonged to Swedish Pomerania . In 1811 serfdom also came to an end in southern Western Pomerania.

Until December 31, 1998, Grünz and the Radewitz settlement were an independent municipality in the Uecker-Randow district . According to the Penkuns city council, Grünz had 92 inhabitants on February 22, 2005, and 88 inhabitants were given for Radewitz.
