Benedetto da Maiano
Benedetto da Maiano (* around 1442 in Maiano near Fiesole ; † May 24, 1497 in Florence ) was an Italian sculptor and builder.
Benedetto da Maiano is considered one of the main masters of sculpture of the Florentine early Renaissance. He was trained by his older brother Giuliano da Maiano , in whose workshop he began his career. He was influenced by Antonio Rossellino and Desiderio da Settignano, among others . He was one of the best marble sculptors of his time and with his late work was a model for the sculptural activities of Michelangelo Buonarroti . In addition to marble, clay was also one of his preferred materials, in which he also made numerous model sketches.
As a builder, he played a key role in the construction of the Palazzo Strozzi in Florence.
