Filippo Strozzi the Elder
Filippo Strozzi (born July 4, 1428 in Florence , † May 14, 1491 ibid), called il Vecchio , the elder, was a Florentine merchant from the Strozzi patrician family .
Filippo Strozzi was the son of Matteo Strozzi and Alessandra Macinghi , was banished by the Medici and gained wealth and influence as a merchant and banker in Naples . After his return to Florence in 1489, he commissioned Benedetto da Maiano to build the Palazzo Strozzi , which he did not see to be completed in 1534. Maiano also created Filippo Strozzi's tomb in the Strozzi Chapel of the Santa Maria Novella Basilica , which was completed in 1502.
