Filippo Strozzi the Younger
Filippo Strozzi , called il Giovane (the younger), actually Giovan Battista Strozzi (born January 4, 1489 , † December 18, 1538 ) was a member of the Florentine patrician family Strozzi .
Life
He was the son of the elder Filippo Strozzi and was married to Clara de 'Medici (1493–1528), a sister of Lorenzo di Piero de' Medici .
However - after initial support - he opposed his hegemony and was then one of the leaders in the successful uprising of 1527: When he, but above all his wife, threw her weight on the scales against the Medici, and the magistrates then voted for their exclusion Speaking of power, Silvio Passerini , Ippolito de 'Medici and Alessandro de' Medici left the city on May 17, 1527.
When Alessandro returned in 1530, Filippo Strozzi withdrew to Venice , then took over the leadership of a group of exiled republicans after Alessandro's murder on January 6, 1537 in order to recapture the city. However, he was beaten, captured and tortured by Alessandro's heir Cosimo I de 'Medici , and ultimately committed suicide.
